The striking appearance of the Bali Myna is undeniable. It is a snow-white bird with black tips on its wings and tail feathers and blue patches of skin around its eyes. It is truly a site to see. The stunning appearance of this bird is also its downfall. The Bali Myna has become a target for poachers for the cage-bird trade. Having one of these birds in a collection is a status symbol and this encourages poachers to continue to hunt this critically endangered species. It is believed that there are less than 100 adult birds left in the wild. Thanks to zoos and other wildlife conservations about 1000 are living in captivity. Hopefully with the help of breeding programs we can get these numbers back up so that these magnificent birds can flourish once again.
